Herculaneum Fire Department's
Car Seat and Safety Inspections
Need
help installing that dreaded car seat, would you like to have a certified
technician inspect your car seat installation or check the seat for
recalls? If so come to the Herculaneum Fire Department's engine house
on June 20, 2009 between 10:00 A.M. & 2:00 P.M. to have a Child
Safety Seat Technician help. In addition to installing the child safety
seat the technician's will also teach you how to properly install
the seat on your own. Often child safety seats are moved from vehicle
to vehicle, so we want to make sure you know how to properly install
the seats to keep your children safe! In
addition to Child Safety Seat Inspections/Installations members of
the Herculaneum Fire Department will have a helmet fitting station.
Children are encouraged to come to the fire house to be properly fit
tested for Bicycle Helmets. Often times children do not wear Bicycle
Helmets or if they are wearing helmets they do not fit properly. One
in seven children suffer head injuries in bicycle related crashes.
Every six hours a bicyclist is fatally injured. Non-helmeted riders
are 14 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than helmeted
riders. Wear a bicycle helmet to prevent serious head injuries. Helmets
will be available for $10.00. Crystal City Cyclery will also be offering
Bicycle Safety Inspections. Police Officers from the Herculaneum Police
Department will be finger printing children. It is a parent’s
worst nightmare—you turn your back for a second and your child
has disappeared. According to the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children, the FBI’s National Crime Information Center
took 876,213 reports of missing persons (adults and juveniles) in
the year 2000. The FBI estimates that some 85-90% of missing persons
are juveniles which amounts to some 750,000 cases of missing children
per year or 2,100 per day. Many can be recovered with quick reporting
by parents. One way to help protect your child in the unimaginable
event that they were to become missing, is to have their fingerprints
on file.
